FAO Signs LoAs with Taraqee Foundation and Islamic Relief Pakistan Under EU-Funded RBWRP to Enhance Community Mobilization and Promote Sustainable Resource Management in Balochistan

Islamabad, May 21, 2025 –  The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has formalized two strategic partnerships with Taraqee Foundation and Islamic Relief Pakistan under the European Union (EU) funded Revival of Balochistan Water Resources Programme RBWRP).Thesecollaborations aim to strengthen community mobilization and deepen local support of sustainable water, agriculture, and livestock management practices in Balochistan.Signed at FAO’s Country Office in Islamabad, the Letters of Agreement with both organizations mark a significant step toward expanding the RBWRP’s outreach in four river basins of Balochistan. Islamic Relief Pakistan will facilitate community mobilization across the Hingol and Hamun-e-Mashkhel river basins, while Taraqee Foundation will lead similar efforts in the Pishin Lora and Nari basins. Together, these efforts will span across 32 watersheds covering 19 districts of Balochistan, contributing to inclusive participation, deeper grassroots awareness, and more effective delivery of climate-resilient
interventions under the RBWRP.The Revival of Balochistan Water Resources Programme is a five-year initiative funded by the European Union and implemented by FAO in close coordination with the Government of Balochistan. The programme supports the rehabilitation and sustainable management of water resources, improvements in rangeland and spate irrigation systems, and the promotion of climate-smart agriculture and livestock practices. These objectives are closely aligned with  EU development cooperation priorities in Pakistan and FAO’s strategic commitment to sustainable natural resource governance and resilient rural livelihoods.By partnering with trusted national NGOs, the FAO aims to enhance local capacity, bridge communication gaps at the community level, and reinforce a participatory model that ensures long-term sustainability. These agreements represent an important milestone in building stronger community linkages and enabling integrated development in some of Balochistan’s most vulnerable and remote areas.
